About Laura…

Laura Fairbanks, SWC

I earned my Master’s in Social Work (MSW) from the University of Denver’s Graduate School of Social Work. I am currently working toward my Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) licensure in the State of Colorado.

Prior to practicing therapy, I spent time in other professional roles – from social work to marketing and project management. I have been fortunate to have those experiences as they have made me a stronger counselor. Having walked in different shoes, I understand the stress of corporate life, the challenges of balancing work and family, and the complexity of interpersonal dynamics in various settings.

During sessions I aim to create a warm and conversational space where clients feel at ease and supported by a confident yet approachable presence. I believe every person has strengths to build on and a story to be heard. With the right tools and understanding, you can meet yourself and others in your life in a compassionate manner to be able to feel positive and intentional in your experiences and interactions.

While working with couples I provide a safe, non-judgmental space where both partners feel heard, understood, and respected. Drawing on research-based techniques such as the Gottman Method for Couples and The Psychobiological Approach to Couple Therapy (PACT), I gently guide couples to break unhealthy patterns and rebuild their connection.

I have pursued several specialized certifications and utilize a handful of modalities which are catered specifically to you as an individual because I truly believe in being equipped to help clients in a holistic way. I practice cognitive behavioral therapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy regularly during my sessions. I am Level One trained in the Gottman Method for couples therapy as well as trained in the CAMS framework for suicide intervention and certified in Sand Play Therapy (a creative, depth-oriented therapy often used to help people express themselves when words aren’t enough). I am a Licensed Addictions Counselor Candidate. I am also excited to announce I will complete my Level Two Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) training for treatment of trauma by the end of 2025.

Why does this matter for you as an individual or as a couple? It means that if tough topics like depression, past trauma, or substance use emerge in our sessions, I have the background to handle them and support you or your partner through those struggles.

I enjoy cooking, paddle boarding, and spending quality time with my family. I have been with my husband for over 10 years and we have two beautiful boys together. I feel fortunate to be able to learn and grow alongside them through, parenting, childhood development, and big life transitions. I believe wholeheartedly that building a healthy and communicative lifestyle and relationship with others changes everyone for the better. I am excited to help you discover yourself and learn more about others around you while building a life that feels fulfilling for you!
