About Hasmik…

Hasmik Manukyan, LPCC

I have always been fascinated with learning how things work, and of course, why things work the way they do. There were times when my parents ran out of answers I had so many questions for them!

As I grew, I had more questions. How does the human brain work? Why do we behave in certain ways? What is the catalyst of some behaviors that we display? Where do certain behaviors originate?

Today, as a registered Psychotherapist and Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate, I help my clients to explore and understand their own behaviors, both as individuals and as partners in intimate relationship. I help clients to feel understood, confront their joys and pains and be motivated to change. Doing this work has given me energy to stay in this profession for over 20 years.

In my 23 years of experience as a mental health professional, I have worked with intercultural, interracial, and interreligious families, and I have studied how cultural forces affect gender roles and child-rearing practices. I have worked with parents of youth who struggled to adjust in their new environment and be able to fit in our society.

I have also worked with couples who have experienced infidelity and betrayal. Additionally, I have extensive experience working with adoptive parents, adults and children with trauma history, abuse, and neglect as well as LGBTQ+ youth. I am also currently facilitating support groups for LGBTQ+ youth and foster and adoptive parents.

As part of my professional growth, I learn daily how to master the art of couple’s therapy. I have training in The Gottman Method for Couples. I also continually study neuroscience, attachment theory and neuro-linguistic programing. The best thing about being a therapist is that I don’t have to worry about boredom. I love what I do and do it with passion!

In my daily practice I use variety of therapeutic approaches that best meet the needs of my clients such as The Gottman Method with Couples, Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Gestalt Therapy, Client Centered Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy and Psychoanalytical Approach Theory..

As a mother of two adult children, and as a partner to a widower, who is raising three children of his own as a single parent, I understand the challenges of parenthood and difficulties of maintaining strong and healthy relationships with challenges present in our daily lives, along with the overwhelming responsibilities that we bear as individuals, parents and partners.

My role, as your therapist is to help you examine, deeply, from every possible perspective, the problem and pain or confusion that you experience, so that you become self-aware and acutely informed of the underlying problem and action steps to help you as an individual or you and your partner get to where you want to be.
